(Dear Tumblr User bleu)
Yes, feminism is about women.
Women who are harassed by men on the streets just because they’re there. Women who are persecuted for their looks and beliefs. Women who are paid 22% less per hour than what men are paid for doing the same job. Women who have to pay a 5% tax on sanitary products to control a normal bodily function, because pads and tampons are deemed unnecessary in a world run by men.
Women who have less say in whether or not they have the right to keep a baby they don’t want, than 60 year old men who are attempting to outlaw abortions simply because they don’t believe that it’s right, or that it doesn’t follow their religion.
Women who believe in the separation of church and state. Women who are looked down upon in the workplace simply because they don’t have a dick. Women who aren’t taken seriously when angry or upset, because “it must be their time of the month!!!”.
Women who are called cancerous for wanting to be treated like an actual human being. Women who are sick and tired of being shoved into the shadows, and dream of a day when a person’s anatomy does not determine their worth.
Yes, feminism is about women. Women who in every way support and are pushing for equality between all people. Because not only is feminism about women, but it is even more so about equality, in that the end goal is equality between all people, regardless of looks, race, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, or gender.
So go ahead and say feminism is about women, there’s absolutely nothing false about that statement.
But don’t you dare try and tell me that feminism is not about equality.
